Unit 2: Primary Assessment & CPR 2.1 Definition of CPR CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is an emergency procedure that combines chest compressions and rescue breaths to maintain blood circulation and oxygen flow when a person’s heart or breathing has stopped. I Unit 2 Summary: Primary Assessment and CPR In this unit, learners are introduced to the critical steps needed to assess a casualty quickly and provide life-saving support. The Primary Assessment follows the DRSABCD approach to identify dangers, check responsiveness, and determine if immediate intervention is required. DRSABCD Steps: D – Danger: Ensure the scene is safe for yourself, the casualty, and others. R – Response: Check if the casualty is conscious by speaking loudly and gently tapping their shoulders. S – Send for Help: Call emergency services or ask someone nearby to assist. A – Airway: Open the airway using the head-tilt, chin-lift method. B – Breathing: Look, listen, and feel for normal breathing for up to 10 seconds. C – CPR: If the casualty is not breathing normally, begin CPR immediately. D – Defibrillation: Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) if available. CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is performed to maintain blood circulation and oxygen flow to the brain and vital organs when a person’s heart or breathing has stopped. Provide 30 chest compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths, continuing the cycle until help arrives, the person recovers, or you are unable to continue. This unit emphasizes staying calm, acting quickly, and following the correct steps to improve survival chances during an emergency. #EmpowerAfriq #FirstAid #CPR #PrimaryAssessment #DRSABCD #EmergencyResponse #LifeSavingSkills #BasicLifeSupport #HealthcareTraining #SafetySkills #CommunityCare #SaveLives #FirstAidTraining
