Giuseppe Saglio, MD, University of Turin, Turin, Italy, comments on the use of asciminib as a first-line treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), highlighting the agent's superior tolerability compared to other tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and the possibility of discontinuing TKI therapy earlier due to faster achievement of deep molecular responses. Prof. Saglio believes treatment discontinuation will be particularly beneficial for younger patients and those with difficulties continuing on long-term therapy.
