Jakarta attacks: 7 people dead after explosions, gunfight, including 5 suicide bombers - TomoNews

JAKARTA, INDONESIA — Islamic State is claiming responsibility for the attacks by suicide bombers and gunmen in Jakarta, Indonesia on Thursday. According to CNN, the series of events began at 10:55 a.m. local time, when the first attacker blew himself up at a Starbucks coffee shop. Two other attackers outside the store then took two foreigners hostage. One hostage was a Dutch citizen and the other was an Algerian citizen. The attackers then began opening fire at people in the street. After they dragged the two hostages into a parking lot to shoot them, police arrived on the scene, prompting the assailants to throw grenades at officers. During the altercation, the Dutch citizen was killed while the Algerian was injured. Soon after, two attackers rode a motorcycle toward a police post and detonated an explosive. In total, seven people were killed during the assault, five of whom were attackers.
