Welcome to the old Killermont Gliding Club rooms Omarama. (WARNING Lots of bird shit!)

I checked out the old Killermont Gliding Club rooms down Broken Hut Road today. Canterbury glider pilots flew there in the early 1980's. The club rooms were moved there and the control tower added. Gliding moved to the Omarama Airfield in in the 1990's. Model aircraft enthusiasts used the old club rooms for a while after that. It has not been used for a very long time. What a mess, with bird shit everywhere! I found a letter from 1982. There is still quite a gliding presence inside with posters and signs here and there. The control tower is still weather tight and offers an amazing panorama view of the area. What a cool old place, and a cornerstone of gliding history in the McKenzie Basin.
