All a dog asks for in the last years of their life is some food, a corner to sleep in, and love. Yet, senior pet dogs are often stripped of these basic rights and abandoned on the streets because their families don’t want to watch them suffer and die. Out of sight, out of mind. What they fail to understand is the trauma which these poor souls undergo after being left in an unknown territory, as in Champ’s case. The seven-year-old was wandering about a locality when some people who regularly feed the other strays in the area spotted him. They knew in an instant that he was probably relocated here due to old age. Within no time, the dogs began attacking Champ leaving him injured and too shocked to defend himself. He was rushed to a hospital, where the doctors discovered that he suffered from radial nerve paralysis, which meant he couldn’t use the paw any more. A damaged limb, old age, and being in an unknown territory… Champ’s rescuer knew the poor dog deserves a better quality of life than this, so he was admitted to the VOSD Hospice without a surrender fee. Under our care he doesn’t have to worry about anything – he has a safe home, gets tasty and nutritious food, and unconditional love at our sanctuary. In fact, his caregivers enjoy spending time with him watching the old boy roll around on the grass!
