Yes, you read that right. The Stentorian Basilisk, which clocks in at $100 at VaporDNA kicks the crap out of my Cartel Mods DNA200 that I paid about $300 for. It’s just made better. Bottom line. Speaking in terms of craftsmanship, in terms of quality of materials, in terms of how it is going to hold up over time, construction, etc. Heck yeah. Way, way better. The Basilisk features quality metal on the top, the bottom, and the faceplate. Even the battery door and the buttons. The resin that’s been used here is among the most beautiful I’ve come across. High quality matte finished. Iridescent. Just beautiful. And it comes with one feature - one accessory really - that couldn’t have cost more than a penny to make but is a priceless add on in how it will preserve the boxmod’s finish for years! If it lacks anywhere it is in the chip that’s been used here. Not so much in the lack of temperature - I couldn’t care less about temperature control. It’s ample in it’s 5-200 watts, in its four different wattage modes, it’s easy to access menu and features. But where it does lack is in its low .1 ohm minimum resistance and its low tolerance to heat. It flashes warnings like “Too Hot” if I chain vape longer than 10 minutes over 100 watts - whether I’m using Hohm batteries, or MXJO’s or the latest and greatest Sonys - doesn’t matter. And whereas normally I wouldn’t care about the lack of an upgrade path, this particular issue does make me rethink that opinion. It would really be nice if that was something that could be pushed out in the form of a small software fix to fix the overheating issue. Too bad. But even with all of that, it’s still head an shoulders about my Cartel DNA200 Box Mod in terms of its fit and finish. Where my Cartel Box has fallen apart in more ways than one in the short time I’ve had it, I expect the Basilisk to hold its form far longer based solely on how well it has been put together. If Stentorian Mods can find a better chip to put in this Basilisk Mod, it could really be a serious contender in the Box Mod hall of fame.
