On September 4, 1957, Arkansas Gov. Orval Faubus used Arkansas National Guardsmen to prevent nine black students from entering all-white Central High School in Little Rock. Little Rock, Arkansas, the white population are determined to prevent coloured students from going to the school their own children attend. A near riot developed and police made a number of arrests among the ring-leaders of the white pickets. Later, the Central High School was sealed off, by orders of the Governor, who called out the State National Guard.
