Raleigh Police Officer Roseberry Did Not Arrest a Man for Jaywalking |

On June 12, 2020, an individual witnessed Officer Roseberry place a black man in the back of her patrol vehicle. In his tweet, he claimed that Officer Roseberry was “arresting him for crossing the street while black.” . Officer Roseberry explained she was driving down Capital Blvd. and stopped at the Spring Forest intersection when a man crossing the street carrying groceries, flagged her down. She stopped, rolled down her window, and asked him to meet her on the other side of the street so he would not get hit by a car. The man told her he had just been released from the hospital, had taken the bus to go to the grocery store near his home, and need to bring the groceries back to give to his elderly neighbor. Officer Roseberry offered to give him a ride home, which he accepted. Per policy, she patted him down before placing him in the back of her vehicle.
