“Slavery Where I Grew: An Exploration of Place and Past in Montgomery County”

As a part of the Kensington Historical Society's Speaker Series, local historian and author Robert Engelman shares what he has learned from an extensive project researching the history of enslavement in the Kensington area. His work is an eye-opening account exploring the history of the property and the people enslaved on the land in the Rock Creek Woods neighborhood (just north of Kensington) in which he was raised. He seeks to identify the names of the enslaved people and tell their stories. Mr. Engelman’s work brings the history of slavery alive right here in our neighborhoods. The event was sponsored by the Kensington Historical Society, the Racial Justice Committee and the Villages of Kensington.
