This is rare footage from the Golden Urn ceremony that recognized the Eleventh Panchen Lama. On November 29, 1995, the Golden Urn ceremony was solemnly held at Jokhang Temple, with hundreds of people in attendance to witness the event. This outcome, however, was not the result of a sudden decision. As early as January 28, 1989, at the time of his passing, the Tenth Panchen Lama left a clear wish regarding his return by vow, stating that he hoped the matter would be determined before the statue of Shakyamuni Buddha through the method of the Golden Urn drawing. In February 1994, three search teams composed of eminent monks began a confidential search. Following traditional religious methods—including lake divination and astrological signs—the teams traveled across five provinces and regions. After repeated verification and careful comparison among numerous leads and candidates, the search teams first narrowed the field from 28 potential candidates to 7, and then further selected 3 final candidates to participate in the Golden Urn ceremony. Among them was Gyaincain Norbu, a boy from Jiali County.
