The average size of a vineyard in the upper Midwest is less than 5 acres. As new growers dive in, they should come armed with knowledge about the economics of running a vineyard this size. Trent Davis and Miguel Gomez from Cornell University will discuss economic data including itemized costs, to help growers understand the costs and returns they can expect when starting a vineyard. From this data, growers can determine needs and cost-saving measures based on their individual situation. The data presented is based on research from the Finger Lakes in New York, but has been customized to fit Midwest vineyard requirements.
