In project-based and agile-inspired courses, learning doesn’t happen in a single long assignment. Instead, it moves forward through short, structured cycles called sprints. This video explains the four-week sprint cycle that serves as the “heartbeat” of the course, guiding students from initial research all the way to final submission and reflection. The cycle is divided into two main phases. Phase One focuses on foundation and development. In Sprint One, students begin with research and drafting, exploring the problem and creating an initial assessment. Sprint Two builds on that work, as students develop their solution and receive critical feedback from the instructor. This stage ensures that mistakes are corrected early and ideas are refined before finalization. Phase Two centers on refinement and completion. During Sprint Three, students iterate on their work, improving their solution and preparing supporting materials based on feedback. Finally, Sprint Four brings everything together with the final submission, followed by a structured reflection on the process. This retrospective helps students understand what worked, what didn’t, and how they can improve in the next cycle. By repeating this four-week rhythm, the course creates a steady, predictable workflow. Students move from research to development, from feedback to refinement, and finally to delivery and reflection—mirroring the same agile cycles used in modern workplaces.
