Let's look at the beauty of Angkor ruins in the order of historical events. This ancient site in the jungle of Cambodia, the Angkor Dynasty was once a civilization in Southeast Asia, and during its heyday, it covered most of Southeast Asia. Most of the temples built at that time were built by the king for himself. Roluos Ruins Bakong Temple This is the largest temple in the Roluos ruins and the earliest national temple of the Angkor Dynasty. It is also the first Sumeru-style building (the highest sacred mountain in Hinduism) in Khmer architecture. It is speculated that this architectural style is "very likely" related to the famous "Borobudur" in Indonesia! Preah Ko Temple As the name suggests, "sacred cow", its name comes from the three sacred cows in front of the temple. The sacred cow Nandi is the mount of Lord Shiva, one of the three main gods in Hinduism. There is a protrusion on the cow's back! This is actually a "humped bull" that is highly respected in India Lolei Temple This used to be a temple located on an island in the lake. It was the first temple built in the lake by the Angkor Dynasty. This lake was also the first artificial lake dug by the Angkor Dynasty. However, the lake no longer exists, leaving only a few ruined pagodas in the center of the lake. Phnom Bakheng In the 9th century AD, King Yenavarman I moved the capital to Angkor and chose Phnom Bakheng as the site of the national temple. The Chenla Dynasty was the first to accept Hinduism as a bishop, and thus inherited the worship of mountains in Hindu doctrines. Unlike the Bakong Temple at the Roluos site before the establishment of Phnom Bakheng, Phnom Bakheng was built with the help of the hilly terrain, extending from the two-dimensional space of the Roluos site to the three-dimensional pattern, reflecting the majesty and height of the mountain. In the next two or three hundred years, with Phnom Bakheng as the center, the architecture of the Angkor Dynasty will gradually radiate to the surrounding areas. Prasat Kravan The pinnacle of brick carving art! Angkor's reliefs are delicate and complex, and most of the famous ones are carved on stone. Prasat Kravan is a brick-structured tower group. Looking into the tower from the doorway, you can see very distinctive red brick bas-reliefs. The relief on the wall of the main tower depicts Vishnu riding Garuda, and the relief on the wall of the west tower depicts Vishnu's consort Lakshmi. Lakshmi is said to be the third treasure that emerged when the gods and Asuras churned the ocean of milk. She is extremely beautiful and is regarded as the goddess of happiness and wealth. Vishnu, as the most popular god in Hinduism, has a gentle personality and often transforms into various images to save the world in distress. Lakshmi also often changes into corresponding images to accompany Vishnu. The carvings of Angkor culture are divided into two different periods, with about 1000 AD as the dividing line. The previous reliefs were made of brick carvings and covered with plaster; later they were changed to stone carvings. Banteay Srei, known as the pearl of Angkor monuments, was built in 967 and completed in 1002 (China was in the Northern Song Dynasty). It was discovered in 1914. Due to its exquisite and gorgeous decoration and charming female statues, it was initially believed to be a palace where concubines lived, but it was actually a temple dedicated to Shiva, one of the three main gods of Hinduism. The Queen's Palace was built with local red sandstone, which is a building material that is easy to carve complex and delicate patterns. Zhou Daguan's "Records of Cambodia" once described that women at that time had a high social status and even participated in political and religious activities. Phimeanakas, a Hindu temple in the Angkor area of Cambodia, was built during the reign of Rajendravarman II (941-968), and was later transformed into a three-story pyramid-shaped Hindu temple by Suryavarman I. There is a temple tower on the top platform of the pyramid, and there are galleries around it. Although the Phimeanakas is called a palace, it is not actually a royal palace. Its top golden tower is the king's bedroom. The king must sleep in the golden tower every night. If the king does not go there for a day, disaster will surely come. . Ta Keo: Located east of Angkor Thom in Cambodia, it was built in the late 10th and early 11th centuries. It was originally a funeral temple built by Jayavarman V of the Angkor Dynasty for himself, but it was abandoned halfway through the decoration stage and became an unfinished temple. However, it allowed future generations to understand the construction technology of Angkor architecture, that is, first build the entire building with stones, and then carve on the surface of the wall. Ta Keo is the first all-sandstone building in Cambodia and is a Vajra Throne Tower-style temple. China participated in the restoration work from 2010 to 2018.
