Born mostly blind, Marilyn, an Indonesian disability advocate, works tirelessly to ensure an intersectional approach and a more equitable future for women, children and others with disabilities. She co-founded and runs a boarding school for children with multiple disabilities, and through training with IBP and her organization, the Assocation of Women with Disabilities (HWDI), conducts social audits of local Puskesmas (health care centers) to ensure that they are accessible and accommodating of people with disabilities. Already their work is paying off, with HWDI securing agreements with Puskesmas around the country, including collaborating to install guiding blocks, disability-specific improvements to online registration and capacity building for sign language interpretation, as well as accessible parking, pedestrian paths and ramps.
