The Tomb of Asif Khan is a 17th-century mausoleum located in Shahdara Bagh, Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. It was built for Mirza Abul Hassan Jah, also known as Asif Khan, a prominent Mughal statesman and brother-in-law of Emperor Jahangir. Asif Khan played a significant role in the Mughal court, serving as Grand Vizier under Emperor Jahangir and later under Shah Jahan. He was also the father of Mumtaz Mahal, for whom the Taj Mahal was built. The tomb was commissioned by Shah Jahan in 1641, following Asif Khan's death in a battle against rebel Raja Jagat Singh. Construction took four years, completing in 1645, at a cost of 300,000 rupees. Architecturally, the tomb is an exemplary model of Mughal design, featuring an octagonal layout, intricate tile work, and extensive use of red sandstone and marble. The structure is set within a large Charbagh garden, a hallmark of Mughal garden design. Unfortunately, the tomb suffered significant damage during the Sikh Empire, with marble and sandstone plundered for use in other structures. Restoration efforts have been ongoing since the British colonial period, with recent initiatives aiming to preserve the tomb's historical significance.
