Licensed acupuncturist Lacey Hrtanek of Finish Line Acupuncture returns for a video on treatment for labor induction, as well as later on in the video, a demonstration of at-home labor-inducing acupressure massage. The latter would be a treatment that could be done by your partner, or anyone to assist in maintaining a healthy pregnancy, and inducing a calming labor with less anxiety. With labor induction, the acupuncture concept is to target points that stimulate blood flow to the pelvic region, on a woman who is about 40 weeks along in a pregnancy. By stimulating these strong moving points along the legs, arms, and between the eyes, tension is relieved through the treatment; which will allow for a much less arduous labor. This treatment should only be done about 40 weeks in, so as to not disrupt the natural trajectory of a pregnancy. While administering the needles for labor induction, the points are stimulated more deeply in order to create a stronger feeling of relaxation. Later on in the video, Lacey offers a quick teaching session on how to administer acupressure massage therapy for at-home use. This procedure is done without the aid of any acupuncture needles, but using manual pressure at the points where those needles would be administered. This is a perfectly relaxing experience that helps to stimulate and relax all of the major points in the lower body, particularly around the joints. Though the muscle-relaxing response will not be quite as strong as in an acupuncture treatment, acupressure massage is a great way to extend the treatment at home by stimulating the nervous system in a similar way.
