In November 2003, two starving brothers stumbled out of the forests near Vernon, British Columbia, claiming they'd been raised entirely off the grid by parents who'd rejected civilization. They called themselves Tom and Will Green. They said they'd never been to school, never eaten birthday cake, never seen a city. An entire community rallied to save them, donating food, clothing, and shelter. But it was all a lie. "Tom" and "Will" were actually Kyle and Roen Horn from Roseville, California, a quiet Sacramento suburb. Kyle had been kicked out for refusing to work. Roen had fled when child protective services tried to hospitalize him for a severe eating disorder. Together, they constructed an elaborate hoax that fooled an entire town for months. The truth only emerged when Roen was hospitalized for malnutrition and an RCMP corporal sent their photos to American media. The $68,000 hospital bill was never fully paid. This story is now the subject of a Paramount+ documentary "Wild Boys: Strangers in Town" premiering February 18, 2026. #WildBoys #BushBoys #TrueCrime #BritishColumbia #Vernon #KyleHorn #RoenHorn #Hoax #Documentary #ParamountPlus
