The video shows how using the modified Canon DC Coupler DR-E6 adapter and a D-Tap cable connected to a V-Lock battery, allows the Canon EOS R6 and Blackmagic video assist to record video for over 4 and a half hours even when the R6 overheating icon is showing. The R6 is used to send 4K images and audio to the Blackmagic video assist via HDMI for recording. No recording is done on the R6 internal SD cards. Along the way, I highlight lessons learnt. My previous video shows how to modify the Canon DC Coupler ( • Replace the proprietary Canon DC Coupler D... ) for use with a V-lock mount and battery. The same set-up will work with the Canon EOS R5 and 5D range from Mark II onwards. 00:00 - Set up Canon EOS R6 for external recording. Monitor the V-Lock battery power status. Start recording on the video assist rather than the R6. 10:42 - 29 minutes 59 seconds recorded time. 11:39 - 2 hours 1 minutes recorded time. 12:13 - 2 hours 7 minutes recorded time. Overheating icon on R6 flashing. 13:10 - 2 hours 12 minutes recorded time. Samsung T5 almost full. 16:10 - 2 hours 16 minutes recorded time. Video assist fan started. 16:25 - 2 hours 34 minutes recorded time. R6 overheat warning icon still flashing. 17:01 - 2 hours 48 minutes recorded time. SD 1 card in video assist almost full. R6 overheat warning icon still flashing. 18:58 - 3 hours 01 minutes recorded time. 19:46 - 3 hours 22 minutes recorded time. SD 2 card in video assist almost full. R6 overheat warning icon still flashing. Display R6 battery level via battery Info. 2 bars on V-Lock battery. Remove R6 menu display off the Video Assist. 21:58 - 3 hours 33 minutes recorded time. 2 bars on V-Lock battery. R6 overheat warning icon still flashing. 22:25 - 3 hours 40 minutes recorded time. T5 recording. 1 bar left on V-Lock battery. R6 overheat warning icon still flashing. 23:00 - 3 hours 51 minutes recorded time. 23:18 - 4 hours recorded time. 23:50 - 4 hours 5 minutes recorded time. 24:08 - 4 hours 10 minutes recorded.R6 overheat warning icon still flashing after over 2 hours since it first appeared. Sensible to stop using the V-lock battery with one bar left and swap it with a fully charged battery. 24:50 - 4 hours 25 minutes recorded time. R6 overheat warning icon still flashing. 25:06 - 4 hours 29 minutes recorded time. R6 screen blanked out due to timeout, reactivated by pressing "SET" button on R6. 25:18 - 4 hours 30 minutes recorded time. 25:28 - 4 hours 31 minutes to 4 hours 37 minutes 44 seconds recorded time. Because, I was not sure when the V-Lock battery would run out of power, I decided to not edit this video section. 31:57 - 4 hours 37 minutes 52 seconds recorded time. V-lock battery ran out of power. Both Canon R6 and Blackmagic Video Assist shutdown in middle of the recording. Unfortunately, I did not check whether the recorded clip on the Blackmagic video assist's Samsung T5 media was fine. 32:00 - Summary. No bars on V-Lock. Suggest replacing a V-Lock battery with only 1 bar left with a fully charged one, to avoid losing the video clip that was being recorded when shutdown occurred. 32:37 - Replaced V-Lock battery. Demonstrated what happens if the menu button on R6 is pressed during external recording. 33:14 - Thanks
