http://www.resonatemusic.ca Step 1: − In Pro Tools, create a new Stereo Instrument track − Name the track "Scratch" Step 2: − On the "Scratch" track insert an instance of Battery (Native Instruments) Step 3: − Import scratch sample into Pad 1 in Group A Step 4: − In the Velocity area near the bottom of the window, set the "To Volume" knob to 0% Step 5: − Select the "Modulation" tab at the bottom of the window − In the "Modulation Slots" area, select the first drop down and choose "Pitchbend" − To the right of that, select "Tune" from that drop down menu − Set the slider in the middle to 75% Step 6: − Copy the first sample by holding option on mac (alt on PC), clicking the first sample and dragging it to Pad 2 in Group A, do the same to copy to Pad 3 in Group A Step 7: − Select the newly copied Pad 2 in Group A, and in the lower area, click the "Reverse" button. − In the sample window to the left, click and drag the right end of the sample over to the left, to only play around 25% of the original sample Step 8: − Select all 3 samples by clicking Pad 1 in Group A, holding shift and clicking Pad 3 in Group A − Click the "Main" tab at the bottom of the window − Click the "On / Off" button beside the "Volume Envelope" section of the lower window − Select ADSR mode by selecting the first little waveform in the title bar of the "Volume Envelope" area − Turn the "Release" knob to 0.00ms and the "Sustain" knob up to 0.0dB Step 9: − Click Pad 1 and shift click Pad 2 in Group A to select both samples − In the lower area, find "Key Range", click the button to the left of the current note and press the middle C on your MIDI keyboard twice Step 10: − Select the "Setup" tab at the bottom of the window − In the "Cell Activation" area of the lower window, select "Cycle Random" from the "Condition" drop down menu Step 11: − While rapidly playing your middle C key on your MIDI keyboard, play with the Pitchbend wheel to create the effect − At the end of each bar press the D key to trigger the longer sample − Have fun and visit www.resonatemusic.ca to see more tutorials
