BTS (방탄소년단) - DDAENG (땡) Lyrics (Color Coded Han/Rom/Eng)

"Ddaeng" is a song filled with meanings in Korean, and the rap line guys masterfully explored each of them. Let me explain in detail some of these meanings: 1. "18, 13, 38 Ddaeng (Victory)": In the hwatoo card game, the number 38 is the most powerful card, while 13 and 18 are just below it. When someone wins, they say "Ddaeng." Essentially, they are expressing that they have the best cards and that no one can defeat them. 2. "U wrong, me right, pay attention, you're wrong": "Ddaeng" is the sound used on shows when someone gives an incorrect answer. That's why it is translated as an incorrect answer. 3. "The bell is ringing, you're ruined": This relates to a children's song that goes "the bell goes ddaeng ddaeng ddaeng." It indicates that classes have ended and the children can go home. BTS uses this phrase to address their detractors. 4. "You did not have lucky in this life, you're ruined": In Korea, it is common to say that someone has had bad luck in this life, based on the ancient belief of reincarnation. Sometimes, you reincarnate into a wonderful life, but other times you may be born as something insignificant like a snail. Here, they are saying that failed detractors have nowhere to come from, at least not in this life. They are "Ddaeng," they are ruined. 5. 0:28 "Hip-hop? are not (…) BTS = are a failure": Here Hoseok is imitating the haters when they said that BTS were Ddaeng in everything. 6. 0:35 "But really, bang! (...) they were wrong": Says they proved all the haters wrong, they're breaking it everywhere (Bang!) and they were wrong (Ddaeng!). 7. 1:08 "If you can't understand it, your problem has no case": Your problem is Ddaeng! In other words, it's pointless. 8. 1:42 "We're all cards of a game, and whoever holds the highest card I really don't give a shit": They refer to the card game mentioned earlier. They indicate that they don't care if they have a high card because, as they say, they have them all. 9. When Yoongi repeats in his verse that they are a failure, it is sarcasm. 10. "Wait, wait, don't move. You're frozen": It's a children's game where, when someone touches you, you say "Ddaeng." It means you can't move anymore. BTS played it in an episode of Run BTS where they were with zombies. 11. 2:46 "Reviewing pending accounts, ding": "Ddaeng" is also the sound a cash register makes. I wrote it as "ding" for better understanding. 12. 2:48 "I'm fine, you're wrong": Literally, it says "I'm Ding-Dong, you're Ddaeng," as "ding-dong" would be the opposite sound of "Ddaeng." 13. 2:50 "It's not that you're bad, but I'm the King": Literally, it says "You're 7 kkeut, I'm Ddaeng," where "7 kkeut" is a high combination of cards in the game but not better than the cards the boys have (18, 13, 38). In other words, it's not that the detractors have bad cards, but BTS still reigns here. 14. 2:52 "They're just haters with swollen faces": Being "Ddaeng" is said when you eat a lot of ramen and your face swells. 15. 2:59 "Why do I feel so perplexed, I might start to s-s-stutter (…) 'cause I feel s-s-so good, so good": This part is based on the Korean saying "Even if your mouth is twisted, you should speak the truth." It means that no matter where the information comes from, it should always be correct. You should always be honest and not blame the situation. Here, Namjoon says, "I'm trying to say the right thing, but my mouth won't stop smiling" because he has proven to everyone that they were wrong when they spoke about them that way before. 16. 3:23 "You are a toad that lives giving honor to its name, I'll pray for your insignificant death in that well": In Korea, saying "The Toad of the Well" refers to someone who thinks they are great just because they don't look at others. In their little hole, the toad believes it is the most powerful and has no idea how insignificant it truly is in the world. Thank you for watching 💜 All Rights Administered by BIGHIT MUSIC/HYBE.
