When the man whose voice is gifted from God sings, we drop everything and listen. To me, KJY is the one of the last surviving legends who has made music accessible/enriching to the world. His humility along with his respect for tradition, his thirst of learning and improvement and giving us pristine music is something we cherish deeply in our hearts. He has accomplished so much and he is still going strong without resting on his laurels! He constantly seeks to improve himself and uplift the listeners every time and the result is divine. He is beyond Bharat Ratna and any manmade award. Like the recently departed greats, Dr. BMK and SPB, his gAnam is timeless! In this concert, you get to hear the famous hits along with rare krithis. KJY sounds young here and as you can tell, it is a sign of the greatness and vidwat that would follow. We also get to hear Swargaputhri Navarathri in Sindhubhairavi, which sounds heavenly! I can never get enough of it. The ever brilliant MSG and TVG enliven and uplift the concert with their magnificent play. Superlative adjectives can never be enough to describe their potent partnership when they play for artists such as Chembai, BMK and KJY. Towards the end, TVG switches to his specialized mridangam which was tuned to sound like a tabla and it sounds heavenly. The senior veteran and eldest member of the group, Alangudi Ramachandran provides solid support on his ghatam. One can recognize his style easily. And he has some tricks up his sleeve during the thani! Thanks to Raju Asokan sir who had this concert for so many years in his collection and gave me permission to upload it. The sruti may vary in place, but the stereo sound quality makes it a memorable feast! Let's honor the memories of MSG and Alangudi and salute the great Yesudas/Dasettan and TVG!
