He was born into a family of musicians in Kolkata and began his training under the guidance of his uncle and father. His grandfather, Bimal Chandra Das, was a renowned esraj player and his father, Sailen Das, and uncle, Santanu Das, were highly reputed sitar players. Pandit Kushal Das continued his training under Pandit Ajoy Sinha Roy, Pandit Manas Chakraborty, Pandit Ramkrishna Basu and Pandit Sanjoy Banerjee. A profound knowledge of music and raga improvisation marks Pandit Kushol Das’ music. He received the Sangeet Visharad (Gold Medal) from Pracheen Kala Kendra of Chandigarh and Sur-Mani Award from Sur-Singar-Samsad of Mumbai. Pandit Kushal Das has participated in numerous music festivals in India and has toured the world. He is a Guru of the Bengal Parampara Sangeetalay in Dhaka. As Pandit Kushal Das picked up the notes of Raga Parameshwari (created by maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar), the nuances of the elaboration and the beautiful gat filled the air in 2014, at the Bengal Classical Music Festival. Pandit Yogesh Samsi proved his musical prowess once again, with a fabulous accompaniment on the tabla. Pandit Kushal Das has participated in numerous music festivals in India and has toured the world. He is a Guru of the Bengal Parampara Sangeetalay in Dhaka. He represents the fourth generation of musicians from his family – he is the great-grandson of Late Bimal Chandra Das, grandson of Late Sailen Das, and son of sitar maestro Pandit Kushal Das. Das trained under the guidance of his father and Pandit Sanjoy Bandopadhyay. He also trained in the disciplines of classical vocals under his mother Sujata Das and Ustad Rashid Khan. His other mentors include Biplab Bhattacharya, Pandit Subhankar Banerjee, and Pandit Shankar Ghosh. Das has performed at shows in India and abroad. He is a recipient of the Jnana Pravaha Scholarship in 2012, 1st Prize in All India Radio Music Competition in 2013, Ravi Koppikar Memorial Award by The International Foundation for Fine Arts, and National Scholarship by the Government of India in 2014. A wonderful Jugalbandi of Sitar performance by Pandit Kushal Das and his son Kalyanjit Das attracted a large number of music lovers at the dead of night. They performed alap, jor and jhala set on Raga Jogkauns. The music was superbly complemented by tabla virtuosos Pt.
