Installing electric windows on a car that originally came with manual windows. This 106 is the independence model which seems to be one of the more basic trim levels available on the 106 it doesn't come with many extras, electric windows was one thing which i wanted to add into this car especially as my grandparents are now driving the car. This job was not too tricky, the hardest part is getting the parts gathered together to do the job, thankfully this car already has a certain amount of pre wiring done in the factory so that the section of the loom inside the car already has the right connectors on it to accommodate electric windows. I needed the following parts for the job: A pair of electric window mechanisms (regulators) in good condition with the motors included electric window switches Centre console from a car with electric windows so that the switches have a place to go Wiring loom for inside the doors, the loom in the door plugs out of place and is easily swapped over, although i dont show the process of adding the loom too well in this video its quite easy to do. An electric window relay, i had a box of relays lying around and found out that the electric window relay from a 406 worked in the 106. The parts were a bit hard to get hold of because of people breaking cars on eBay, they have the ask the seller button at the bottom of their listings, but i have found that a lot of the time these people breaking cars are very bad at replying to the messages, the person i did buy the parts from didn't include all i had paid for in the first parcel and it took over a month to get the rest of the parts, a rather disappointing experience in using eBay to buy from car dismantlers, although i did get the parts in the end. Once i had all the parts they went into the 106 quite easily, the rivets holding the old window mechanism in place still had part of their mandrels protruding so it was impossible to drill the rivets out, although they did come off with a pair of pliers, the electric window mechanisms fit perfectly into place, and went up and down without any problems, one thing worth doing is spraying some silicone lubricant into the run channels to help the glass move up and down easier. The electric windows have been installed and working in the car for a few months now and work without any problems, placing the electric window buttons beside the gearstick is an unusual place to put them but its still much easier and nicer to use than the manual wind up windows.
