Devadip Carlos Santana & Mahavishnu John McLaughlin – Phoenix Into The Flame Sky (Midnight Dreamer – MD-526A/B/C) Early show live at Celebrity Theatre, Phoenix, AZ September 12th 1973. John McLaughlin - guitar; Carlos Santana - guitar; Larry Young - organ; Doug Rauch - bass; Armando Peraza - percussion; Billy Cobham - drums. ------------------------ Info: Discogs - Santana e John McLaughlin –Phoenix Into The Flame Sky https://www.discogs.com/ru/release/5767304... ------------------------ Notes from uploader: John and Carlos were on the road 51 years ago for a couple of weeks at the end of August and start of September doing shows in support of their then current Love, Devotion, and Surrender album. The concert billing seemed to generally be along the lines of how these shows are presented. Santana first (a relatively new Chinmoy devotee, not yet with his Devadip name), followed by Mahavishnu John McLaughlin (as much of the world knew him at that point). The tour came just a couple of weeks after the official live album from the original Mahavishnu Orchestra (Between Nothingness and Eternity) had been recorded in Central Park, NYC. There's also a boot circulating of a Santana show in the Carolinas from August 16th of this same year, so these guys were pretty busy in those days. Each of them had presumably just taken part in annual celebrations held during late August in Jamaica, Queens N.Y. to mark the birthday of their guru from those days, Sri Chinmoy. This short tour included supporting players who were connected with each of the principals. Doug Rauch and Armando Peraza were with Santana, and, of course, Billy Cobham was the 2nd most prominent member of the MO after John himself. Larry Young (a.k.a. Khalid Yasin) had worked with John in the Tony Williams Lifetime. There are recordings from many of the shows on this short tour. Some are really nice quality soundboards (Chicago) and FMs (Berkeley). Others, like this one, are audience recordings, and their quality varies. To my ear, this is a good one, but let the samples below be your guide. I'm not sure that this is the complete show because other dates also included Let Us Go into the House of the Lord. Since there were 2 shows in Phoenix, perhaps it was left out. I do have that 2nd show, so if there's interest here in that, please indicate it in the comments below and I'll get that running too. This was opened in Audacity to check the tracking and files prior to this share. A couple of digi-gaps were repaired, and some small things were done via EQ/Mastering tools to try to get a bit more bottom overall, and boost John's guitar, which seemed a bit more distant than it often was at these shows. Pitch/speed was checked, and seemed to be just about where it needed to be. Finally, sbe's were found and fixed in TLH. Thanks, by the way to whoever it was that first recorded this show back in "the day". I'd just had this running a little while ago at DIME as a nod to John's 83rd birthday on Jan. 4th, so we'll keep that party going here too about a week after the fact. Enjoy!
