Every year the Indian version of British reality show Big Brother, known as Bigg Boss, throws up celebrities who go on to become household names. This season, Chum Darang, an actor and model from north-east India’s Arunachal Pradesh, won hearts when she became a finalist on the show. This is significant because people from this region of India face a lot of racism for the way they look and talk. As someone who came to the show to showcase her Arunachali identity, Chum speaks to the BBC’s Ishadrita Lahiri about life after Bigg Boss, racism she’s faced in Mumbai and northeast representation in Bollywood.
