Thieves Steal Jewellery From Louvre In Daylight Burglary

The Louvre has been evacuated after thieves broke in in broad daylight and stole jewellery which once belonged to Napoleon Bonaparte’s family, according to reports. French television reported that the gang had used an extendable ladder to reach the first floor of the world’s most visited museum before opening a window with a chainsaw and accessing a cabinet containing the jewels. The French interior ministry has confirmed the theft. The theft is said to have occurred on Sunday at about 9.30am, shortly after the museum, which contains such artworks as Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and the Winged Victory of Samothrace, had opened.
