Starting from Bandipur, a small mountain village, I made my journey back to the capitol of Nepal, Kathmandu. My journey started with a half an hour bus ride to the small town Dumre located at the bottom of the mountain. Dumre is located in between Pokhara and Kathmandu. Therefore, buses and mini vans leaving both cities early in the morning pass eventually through Dumre. I got to Bandipur around 11 am and hoped on one of the mini vans to Kathmandu. TRAVEL TIP In my opinion, mini vans are the best way to navigate around Nepal. First of all, mini vans are usually cheaper than tourist busses because rather than paying a fixed price you only pay for the journey you are actually taking. (e.g. if you get on a tourist bus in Dumre, you usually have to pay the full rate from Pokhara to Kathmandu). Besides the fact that mini vans are cheaper than they are also faster as they are able to pass slow buses along the way. The drivers of all the mini vans I have been on during my time in Nepal liked to drive fast. So, we actually made it to the destination on time (roughly matching Google Maps times). However, that being said, I also met travelers that avoided mini vans for exactly that reason as they feared for their safety... There is also the option to take the local bus, which would be the cheapest but also the most uncomfortable one. Join me on the long journey back to Kathmandu!
