If you liked this video why not buy me a coffee! https://www.buymeacoffee.com/DavosShed Today I demonstrate how to make a square headed 3/8 - 16 (UNC) high tensile bolt out of a larger high tensile bolt on my old 1930's (ish) Atlas lathe using simple home ground High Speed Steel lathe tools. I show how the manual change gears are used to determine the correct pitch. I also mill the square head onto the bolt using a milling attachment on the lathe. The bolt is used to lock the tailstock in position so I obviously can't use the tailstock during this process. It's always a challenge to make replacement parts on the machine that needs them. Apologies for the odd wobble cam footage in some scenes. The lathe was slightly touching the wall where my camera was mounted. I used software to remove the wobble which was pretty effective but the finished footage looks like there were ripples in the space time continuum. :) It's still easy enough to watch I reckon. Thanks Dave
