Although Lloyd as we know it ceased to exist quite some time ago, one of their three original B727-200s saw a new lease of life through a wet-lease with rival airline AeroSur, which lasted from 01/07/2009 until 23/08/2009 (a new wet-lease contract has since been signed with the military airline TAM, for whom the aircraft still flies today). On July 12th, 2009, I had the good fortune to fly on this aircraft from Cochabamba (CBB) to Tarija (TJA), as AeroSur flight 5L144. Due to the airport elevation (9,500ft), midday heat and age of the poor 727's engines, the take-off was a long one, with power only reduced quite late in the 45-minute flight. Slowing down though seemed to take considerable effort as the spoilers were fully up for 5 minutes in the descent, with the landing in TJA characteristically firm. You can also hear the #2 reversor being engaged a little after #1+3. Also noteworthy, notice how the flaps did not fully fit back into their slots when retracted, something that caught my attention before leaving CBB. When I mentioned this to the stewardess, she replied "thank you and I'll tell the purser now, but as this aircraft is not ours we don't know how it is maintained"(!)... Still, nice to fly on a 727 in 2009. CP-1366 was delivered new to LAB on 04/08/1978. Fitted with winglets in 2000 and currently one of only around 50 727s still flying passengers in the world. Enjoy 'em while they last. :-( (Video shot entirely from seat 26F.)
