Causes & Risk Factors Genetic predisposition (some cases linked to TGFBI gene mutations). Age-related changes (typically affects individuals over 30 years old). Corneal trauma or surgery (e.g., LASIK, corneal abrasions). Dry eye syndrome (can exacerbate symptoms). Symptoms Fluctuating vision or blurred vision. Foreign body sensation (gritty feeling in the eye). Recurrent corneal erosions (painful episodes, especially upon waking). Light sensitivity. Diagnosis & Biochemical Findings Slit-lamp examination reveals map-like, dot-like, and fingerprint-like patterns. Fluorescein staining highlights epithelial irregularities.
