An artful, beautiful and haunting examination of a one night stand starring the late Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Terminator Salvation) in one of his last roles. Porto takes its title from the Portuguese coastal city where Jake (Yelchin), an aimless American, meets French archaeology student Mati (Lucie Lucas). Using their brief and very sensual encounter as a starting point, Klinger and co-writer Larry Gross (48 Hours, Streets of Fire) deconstruct and reconstruct events from different and highly stimulating perspectives. There's what actually happened, and what might have been had Jake and Mati not parted ways in the morning. Artfully mixing 35mm, 16mm and Super-8 footage to show how emotion can shape our memories, Porto is a touching love letter to love itself. Our screenings of Porto are respectfully dedicated to the memory of Anton Yelchin. (Yelchin's) low-key but soulful turn here is a welcome reminder of what was most delicate and distinctive about him as a nascent leading man: The sparse but particular body language, the mixture of softness and steadfastness in his delivery, the guileless, thoughtful gaze. – Guy Lodge, Variety With a simple yet elegiac score and a gorgeous Portuguese backdrop, Klinger creates a moving and haunting portrait of the strange moments of love, connection, and loss. – Shelagh Rowan-Legg, Screen Anarchy Supported by: University of New South Wales, Sydney The 64th Sydney Film Festival – 7-18 June 2017 http://sff.org.au/ / sydneyfilmfestival / sydfilmfest / sydfilmfest #sydfilmfest
