Vladimir Prado - Piano 00:00 Moderato 03:03 Moderato 05:54 Andante cantabile ed espresivo 08:21 Allegretto 11:50 Allegro 13:38 Andantino 15:52 Allegretto Modesta Bor (1926-1998) was a Venezuelan Composer. She studied in Caracas with Elena Arrarte, Juan Bautista Plaza, Antonio Estévez, Maria de Lourdes Rotundo and Vicente Emilio Sojo, graduating with a degree in composition in 1959. She continued her studies at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory with Aram Khachaturian. After completing her studies, Bor returned to Venezuela to work as a composer, teacher and choir director, becoming head of the music department in the Central University of Venezuela Culture Department. She also served as director of the musicology section of Folklore Research of the National Service. This seven-piece set somehow reveals the influence of Sarcasms Op. 17 by the Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev. We consider that this work in its entirety constitutes the most extensive and elaborate of the productions within the pianistic repertoire of Modesta Bor, where a new type of expressive search is reflected, which culminates in the breakdown of the traditional schemes of tonality. Here the author is inclined to exploit different harmonic resources through the prolific use of chords, especially triads and tetrads, without a defined tonal function. This harmonic richness is contrasted with the sober treatment of melodic lines that are usually composed of small motifs that do not develop, generally appearing under the character of a rhythmic-melodic ostinato. The juxtaposition of motifs and sections in some cases pose an additive structure, which cannot be defined under the terms of "compound form" or "free form" since many times it is a plurality of events organized in a "cubist" way where the episodes follow one after another in large blocks. This fact occurs especially in sarcasm numbers 4 and 7. From the consultation sources, two copies of the sarcasms could be found that are almost identical, the only difference is that the copy found in the private archive of Lena Sánchez Bor specifies the metronomic indication of each piece.
