I observed a white Toyota Camry passenger car travel over the fog line and make an improper lane change by failing to signal for 100 feet prior to making the lane change. I stopped the vehicle at the 6-mile marker eastbound. I approached the vehicle on the passenger side and made contact with the driver (Tara Walter). I advised Walter of my reasoning for the stop and asked to see her driver’s license and paperwork on the vehicle. Walter was very nervous while I was speaking with her. Her hands were shaky, and her carotid artery was beating very fast. While speaking with Walter, I could smell an overwhelming scent of perfume coming from inside the vehicle. Walter advised me that she was travelling from California to Florida. Walter was hesitant about her travels. Walter refused to a consensual search, so I requested Trooper Tanner Hess to bring his K9. A short time later, Trooper Hess arrived on scene and deployed his K9 for a free air sniff of the vehicle. Trooper Hess’s K9 alerted to the rear of Walter’s vehicle. I then began a search of Walter’s vehicle. During my search, I located large trash bags that contained several vacuum sealed bundles of marijuana in the trunk. I also located $3,400 US currency in the front seat of the car. I then placed Walter in the back of my patrol car. Walter’s vehicle was then towed to the 12th/21st drug task force office by Whites Towing. Once at the DTF office, I met with Agen W. Agent W and I obtained a field weight of the drugs. The total weight was 26 pounds of marijuana. We also seized $3,400 in US currency. All evidence was then turned over to Agent W. Walter is being charged with 5-64-436(b)(4) possession with purpose to deliver controlled substance schedule VI = 25 LBS 100 LBS, 5-64-443(a)(2) possession of felony drug paraphernalia, and 27-51-302 improper lane change/usage.
