The exhibit delves into the essence of India embodied by Bhanu's iconic costume designs crafted for Indian cinema. A trailblazer in defining the aesthetics of a new India through her creations, Bhanu left an indelible mark on cinema. Her remarkable work graced films like Amrapali, Waqt, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Sangam, Gandhi, Lagaan, Swades, and more. Looking back at the highlight of the exhibit; a captivating dialogue centered around shattering stereotypes in cinema. Style icon and actor Zeenat Aman reminisces and reimagines herself in Bhanu Athaiya's crafted ensembles. These creations, more than mere fashion statements, served as powerful declarations challenging societal norms. In the world of Hindi Cinema, Zeenat Aman and Bhanu Athaiya emerge as pioneers who gracefully dismantled stereotypes. Zeenat’s fearless on-screen presence in films like ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ challenged conventional beauty norms. Bhanu, the visionary costume designer, played a pivotal role in this revolution, crafting ensembles that echoed individuality. Zeenat Aman recalls one of her favourite ensembles in the film Pukar with its Indian- Portuguese influences. In Dhund, she wore a series of ravishing sarees - her first film project with Bhanu. ‘Qurbani’ celebrated her bold charisma. Together, Zeenat and Bhanu’s collaborations created a nuanced narrative that transcended stereotypes, becoming a symbol of authentic and empowering beauty in Hindi cinema.
