CIVA INS Basics: Programing and In-Flight Navigation ~ Felis 747-200 for X-Plane

This video highlights segments of a flight that explains and demonstrates how to initialize, program, and utilize the CIVA INS. Also, how to recover after messing up! Click SHOW MORE link for hyperlinked topics: The narration within this video interchangeably refers to the Delco Carousel IV-A as "the CIVA" or "the INS". The pre-flight segments walk you through powering up & aligning the INS. It then shows you how to find and enter your gate's coordinates, which are needed to initialize the INS position. An explanation of the logic in selecting waypoints from the en route segment is provided, as well as a demonstration of programming the route into the CIVA. A few mistakes were made during a few segments, and the consequences were left in this video to help us learn from them! The in-flight segments include demonstrating how to transition from radio navigation on the departure phase to INS navigation for the en route phase. The added benefit of initially missing some the mistakes I made in pre-flight was our aircraft going off course en route! Identifying and correcting the issue was demonstrated. We conclude with transitioning from INS back to radio navigation for the arrival. While this demonstration is based on the Felis 742's (v1.0.4) included CIVA, most of the programing and in-flight use should apply to other CIVA units modeled in X-Plane.
