How to Configure Spanning Tree Protocol on Juniper Devices Juniper Networks devices provide Layer 2 loop prevention through Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP), and VLAN Spanning Tree Protocol (VSTP). RSTP is the default spanning-tree protocol for preventing loops on Ethernet networks. Spanning Tree protocols have the following benefits: Provide link redundancy while simultaneously preventing undesirable loops Prevent Broadcast Storms Connects to devices that are not STP-capable, such as PCs, servers, routers, or hubs that are not connected to other switches, by using edge ports.
