May the Great Sage Shakyamuni Buddha bless and protect us, and may all merits be perfectly accomplished. ------------------------ Introduction to the Mantra Shakyamuni Buddha, whose name means “the Sage of the Shakya Clan” and “the Silent Awakened One,” was a prince who renounced his royal privileges and worldly splendor in a distant past to embark on the arduous path of seeking life’s ultimate truth. Through six years of austere asceticism, he embraced impermanence and danced with stillness, ultimately attaining Anuttara Samyaksaṃbodhi—Supreme Perfect Enlightenment—beneath the Bodhi tree. The Shakyamuni Buddha Heart Mantra originates from the Buddha Speaks the Prajñāpāramitā in Small Characters of the Holy Mother Sutra and the Mahāvaipulya Gathering of Dhāraṇīs Sutra, both preserved in the Taishō Tripiṭaka. This mantra serves not only as the key to the enlightenment achieved by all Buddhas but also as a bridge guiding sentient beings toward liberation. Within its verses lies more than words—Buddha's wisdom transforms into a living force, helping us to view the world with transcendental clarity and reach the core of existence. Today, the 8th day of the 12th lunar month, marks the anniversary of Buddha's enlightenment. Under the shade of a Bodhi tree and with a mind as clear as the morning sky, he revealed a profound truth that resonates across the universe. On this sacred day, let us look up to the radiance of the Buddha, reflect upon our own hearts, and embrace the serenity and light that emanates from beneath the Bodhi tree. It has traversed millennia and continues to warm each and every one of us. ------------------------ Benefits of Reciting the Mantra Purification of Karmic Obstacles Reciting the mantra helps eliminate past negative karma and sins, paving the way to a pure and serene inner world.
