Following Payton Shires' plea, teen victim's mom urges parents to 'pay attention'

A Columbus mom is warning other parents to watch for warning signs after the youth counselor trusted to care for her 13-year-old son pleaded guilty to repeatedly having sex with him, among other crimes. Payton Shires could go to prison for 28.5 years on charges of sexual misconduct, along with charges of intimidation and inducing panic for showing up to the family’s home armed with gun following her arrest last fall. She also will be required to register as a Tier II sex offender for 25 years.
