Gerald R. Ford made his first appearance at the U.S. Capitol as President of the United States during a Joint Session of Congress. President Ford addressed colleagues & friends of the Congress that he made after serving in the U.S. House of Representatives as Congressman from Grand Rapids, Michigan. After receiving an especially warm welcome lastly several minutes, President Ford began his remarks with "My fellow Americans, we have a lot of work to do. My former colleagues, you and I have a lot of work to do. Let's get on with it". President Ford stated that America did not need more words, but needed action. President Ford remarked that his motto with Congress would be Communication, Conciliation, Compromise, and Cooperation as he wanted his Administration and Congress to be tuned in to the real voice of America, the people. President Ford historic quotes: "I do not want a honeymoon with you (Congress), I want a good marriage.""Several months ago I stated that I was a Ford, not a Lincoln. Today I say, I am still a Ford, just not a Model T." "The unanimous concern of Americans is inflation, for once all the polls seem to agree. They (the polls) also suggest that the people blame government far more than management or labor for the high cost of everything they have to buy."
