Tesla Drive Unit Controller, Filling in features: Cruise Control

Edit/Note: Lots of questions on how I actually enabled cruise control. I was using one hand to hold the throttle and press the cruise enable button on my button pad. I cheat with input for the time being because I didn't want to hook up more buttons yet so I made a tap on "D" while already in "D" engage cruise control. -- Excuse my disaster of a work area. Working on the finishing touches for the base software that controls the drive unit over CAN. I have everything the drive unit wants to hear emulated at this point, which totals just over 1000 CAN messages per second from imaginary modules like the BMS, parking brake, traction control system, steering controls, charger, charge port, and other misc items that come from the MCU/gateway... all in my standalone controller. Today is a milestone because I now can officially run the unit consistently with my stand alone controller with zero alerts/errors/warnings from the unit. Control is smooth and can be customized in detail, with even some control over throttle mapping. Filling out features now, so I finished up cruise control. This is impossible to make work with ANY errors/warnings coming from the drive unit. Pretty much everything has to be perfect for it to accept the commands which manipulate cruise control. So while it looks simple, it definitely is not, especially without a real ABS/traction control system for feedback. My module emulations can easily accept real external input, which could be configured to inexpensively do real traction and stability control just like in the Model S by getting readings from an accelerometer and a few wheel speed sensors (which are pretty standard on any car that has an ABS system). Remember that this is the same drive unit that helps propel the Tesla P90D from 0-60 in 2.8 seconds with near zero wheel slippage. No modifications to the differential required. This monster is awesome just as it is. With the work done for full emulation of the ABS/ESP system it works like a charm. Not much else to do with the controller on the bench besides perhaps a high power test using some wheels and the brakes to generate some resistance. It's quite obvious that I'm able to command full power with the limpMode error cleared, so, I may just wait until I get the beast into its new home before doing high power testing... which is likely much safer anyway. :) More to come! skie.net 3000ev.com (yes, I know the sites are not pretty!)
