This all started when I was checking out random PS1 games for visual inspiration for something I was working on and discovered this game and really liked the environments in it. They all had pretty nice detail achieved with fairly simplistic geometry and great use of vertex color baked lighting. At first I just exported the environments from it to see how they were done but eventually that turned into me importing them into UE5 and that turned into me trying to just remake all the gameplay and functionality of the game. I tried to make everything look as close as possible to the original PS1 game, only make the gameplay feel like the more modern first person RE games. All the assets were exported using a custom version of Duckstation that can capture 3d screenshots of games, I only had to recreate the animations from looking at recordings since as far as I know, there is no way to export animations from PS1 games. Since the original game only had an on screen reticule visible for aiming, I also created the first person model and animations, trying to keep it consistent with the rest of the visuals. The gun was textured using one of the inventory icons for the gun in order to keep it within the same art style. I don't know how far I will go with this past what I have now, but it was fun to work on and it helped me practice creating different gameplay mechanics and things like UI in UE5.
