Aging at Home: the CAPABLE way

With simultaneous translation into Spanish by the Aging and Health Program of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), this virtual seminar was held to learn how to achieve the objectives of healthy aging at home and how to work with health care providers. A team from Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing presented CAPABLE, a program that reduces the impact of functional impairment and disability, enhances motivation and self-efficacy, improves emotional health, and reduces hospitalizations and nursing home days. CAPABLE is based on the concept that improving health involves someone’s environment, including the home, thereby enabling older adults and their families to change behaviors that are essential for ageing well that result in improving health, independence, and safety at home.
