An introduction to Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma - Prof Neil Wood (WEB125)

Prof Neil H Wood completed Dentistry the University of Pretoria where he also obtained his post-graduate diploma in Maxillofacial and Oral Pathology. After specializing in Oral Medicine and Periodontics (MDent, OMP) his clinical and academic experience further developed at the University of Limpopo, Medunsa Campus and later as an Associate Professor and Head Clinical Unit at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. The focus of his PhD (Antwerp and SMU) was on the prevalence of Human papillomavirus in the mouth and oropharynx. Prof Wood authored and co-authored many national and international peer-reviewed papers and currently has several ongoing research projects and post-graduate students. He is a past president of the South African Society for Periodontology, Implantology and Oral Medicine, and served a few organizations such as the International Association for Dental Research, the Ethics Institute of South Africa, and the International Academy of Oral Oncology. He served on editorial boards of peer-reviewed dental journals and is the current Managing Editor for the South African Dental Journal (SADJ). Prof Wood currently holds the position of Full Professor and Head Clinical Unit at SMU and is the Acting Head of Department.
