#Art From Great Artists #AGA #painting LYNN BOGGESS He was Born in 1955 in West Virginia, Lynn Boggess grew up on a farm near Parkersburg, West Virginia, and continues to live and work in his home state. He was Professor of Art at Fairmont State College and Coordinator of the Art Department for several years before devoting himself exclusively to painting ———— About Lynn Boggess With masterful use of line, palette and texture Lynn Boggess carries the viewer into his richly verdant and luscious landscapes, where these works were conceived. Lynn Boggess’ subjects reflect the diverse nature of West Virginia and its flora. Boggess draws the viewer into the deeply receding spaces of his images. The pictures, devoid of human or animal habitation, focus on Nature, free of the influence of human activity. Boggess compels the viewer to contemplate each scene in turn, and finally the cycle of scenes: the lapse of hours; the alternating character of the rocks, of the trees and of the land; the turn of season. The paintings themselves become the spaces they portray. ————- A plain air landscape painter from West Virginia, Lynn Boggess braves the weather of all seasons, armed with canvases and cement trowels for brushes, to capture the beauty of nature in his unique landscapes. He received his Bachelor’s in Fine Art from Fairmont State University, and went on to complete his Master’s at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. For over 10 years, Lynn taught painting at Fairmont State University while also continuing his career as a painter. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award at the West Virginia Governor’s Awards and the 2001 West Virginia Higher Education Art Educator of the Year. Lynn continues to live and work in West Virginia. The paintings can be appreciated on many levels. To the casual viewer, there is a fascination with the fact that the work appears photographic at fifteen feet away, while at two feet it is a complex arrangement of large strokes of the trowel. To those who have an appreciation for the natural world, there is a purity in the subject, which denies all references to human interference. Adventures enjoy the fact that nearly all of the work is created on location. Art historians appreciate his references to Impressionism, nineteenth century realism, and twentieth century abstract expressionism. Contemporary theorists enjoy the relevance of the work as it relates to recent discussions about the nature of reality and place, as well as the tension between surface and illusion. Natives of Appalachia experience a strong jolt of memory. Nearly everyone who has walked on a hillside or stood in a wooded grove can hear, smell, and feel the place where the artist stood.
