Iran News: Mojtaba Khamenei Elected Iran’s Supreme Leader After Ali Khamenei’s Death | War News

Iranian state media reports that Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been elected as the country's next Supreme Leader following his father's death in an airstrike by the United States and Israel on Saturday. The reports claim Mojtaba Khamenei was selected by the country's Assembly of Experts, who met virtually. Mojtaba Khamenei is Ali Khamenei's second son and was the shadow power behind his father. He has strong ties with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and has stayed active in elections and high-level decision-making. However, he is not a high-ranking cleric and held no official role previously. He was sanctioned by the United States in 2019. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz in a social media post threatened to eliminate any supreme leader elected by the regime. A three-day memorial ceremony for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will start Wednesday midnight, with supporters assembling at the Grand Mosalla in Tehran.
