It's quite amazing to think that over 400 million years ago (to put it into perspective, that's roughly 100 million years before the first dinosaurs appeared), a large mountain range similar in scope to the Himalayas stood not far from where Brimham Rocks, in North Yorkshire, now stands. Over time, the powerful forces of nature gradually wore them away creating a river delta the size of Yorkshire. The sands of the delta were later compacted and then further eroded, beginning the long, slow process of shaping the rocks into their current forms. Brimham Rocks, a large 400-acre site now managed by the National Trust, is a hugely popular destination for visitors to the Yorkshire Dales, and makes for a fantastic day out for young and old. I defy anyone to visit and not be tempted to climb on the rocks... It was the autumn colours and late afternoon sun of my November visit that inspired my own interpretation of 'The Blacksmith's Anvil', a timelapse extract of which you'll find amongst footage of the stones in all their glory. There's also a brief extract from my 'How to Paint Rocks' demonstration featured in my 'Painting Mountains' DVD (which can be ordered from here: https://peterwoolley.co.uk/shop/produ...) Read a full account of the visit in my Travel Blog: https://www.peterwoolley.co.uk/blog/2... A longer version of this video, which also features the full - non-timelapsed - painting demonstration, along with a step-by-step guide and hundreds of other similar projects, is available to all subscribers of my online tuition service. A Member subscription is only £9 per month; with that, you'll have instant access to a wealth of painting and drawing projects and tutorials. If you're looking for one-to-one tuition and personal guidance, then there are also student upgrade options available. Sign up for full access at https://www.peterwoolley.co.uk/online...
