Today we’re driving the B797 to Mennock in Scotland, also known as the Mennock Pass. You’ll be treated to some stunning scenery, winding roads, and big elevation changes, as we travel over and through the hills. Whether you want to test out your fancy sports car, or just want to take a scenic drive through the countryside, this isn’t a drive you’ll want to miss, with it’s well maintained roads, and amazing views that will make you want to stop and take photos. Just watch out for cyclists and sheep. Located on the Dumfries and Galloway and South Lanarkshire border, this route is one of three scenic routes that passes through the Lowther Hills in the Southern Uplands. Along the way we’ll pass through the villages of Leadhills, and Wanlockhead, Wanlockhead famous for being the highest village in Scotland, at an elevation of 466 meters (1531 ft.). Distance: 23.0km (14.3 miles) Travel Time: 24 minutes Avg Speed: 58 km/h (36 mph) Elevation: Min 129m (424 ft), Max 468m (1536 ft), Diff 339m (1112 ft) Gradient: Max 19%, Avg 3.5% A majority of the route is a 60 mph speed limit with a couple of 30 mph zones through the villages of Leadhills and Wanlockhead. The entire route is a 2-lane single carriageway, but does narrow towards the southern most end.
