Hundreds of fuel trucks stuck at Busia and Malaba border points

Over one hundred fuel tankers destined for Uganda and neighbouring countries further afield have remained stuck at the common Busia and Malaba border points for nearly four days. Agitated drivers say that the special police escorts that are routinely required to escort the conveys have not done so since Sunday. The tankers that are carrying over four million litres for fuel destined for Kampala, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo and Southern Sudan cannot move because police officers attached to the integrated highway patrol, who are supposed to escort them have not been deployed. For nearly two years now, fuel trucks entering Uganda have to be given police escort to designated bonds as a precaution against theft and terror attacks.
