Gorges de la Poëta-Raisse Môtiers Val de Travers Switzerland Gorge: https://s.geo.admin.ch/3ckgw1orx45z The Gorges de la Poëta-Raisse near Môtiers in Val de Travers are one of the most impressive gorges in the Swiss Jura. The trail leads across numerous wooden walkways, bridges, and stairs carved into the rock through a wild, wooded rocky landscape. Important visitor information • Seasonal closure: The gorge is officially closed from October 31 to April 30. Visiting during the winter months is not recommended due to slippery conditions and the risk of falling rocks. • Admission: Access to the Gorges de la Poëta-Raisse is free of charge. • Equipment: As the path is often wet and slippery, sturdy shoes and sure-footedness are essential. Hiking details (circular route from Môtiers) • Start & finish: Môtiers train station or the free La Poëta-Raisse car park on the edge of the village. • Duration: Allow around 2.5 to 3.5 hours for the classic circular hike. • Distance & elevation gain: Approx. 9 km with an ascent of around 450 to 500 meters. • Difficulty: Classified as moderate (T2); the upper part of the gorge is particularly steep and consists almost exclusively of steps. Highlights along the route • Cascade de Môtiers: Shortly after the start, you will pass a waterfall with a cave where Jean-Jacques Rousseau liked to spend time. • Absinthe hunt: Small cabinets containing bottles of absinthe and glasses are hidden along the trail – a tribute to the tradition of the Val de Travers. • Picnic area: There is a small chalet with tables in the gorges where you can take a break. How to get there • Public transport: Take the train to Môtiers station, from where the trail is well signposted. • Car: Use the official car park at Grande Rue 50 in 2112 Môtiers.
