A statement issued Sunday on behalf of Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam said that unspecified "deficiencies in the government's work had led to substantial controversies and disputes in society, causing disappointment and grief among the people." The apology comes after massive street protests over the past week, including a surprisingly large protest on Sunday.
